Matte Clay Pomade
Most pomade costs you your hair. This one doesn't.
Every pomade on the shelf is a trade. Hold today, dry and brittle six months from now. Alcohol strips it. Polymers build up. You wash it out and it feels like straw — so they sell you a conditioner to fix what the pomade did.
Same business model as the skincare aisle. We went the other way.
The test that actually matters
Not how your hair looks with product in it. How it feels when the product is out.
We've used this daily for a month. Holds all day, every day. And the hair underneath is softer than when we started.
What it does
- Holds all day. Firm but workable. Run your hands through it and reshape without flaking.
- Dead matte. French green clay pulls the shine down. No wet look, no plastic feel.
- Conditions while it holds. Tiger grass and cold-pressed jojoba stay in your hair instead of stripping it.
- Washes out with normal shampoo. No degreasing routine, no double-washing.
- Cedar, from essential oil only. No synthetic fragrance.
How to use it
Less than you think. Warm a small scoop between your palms until it turns to oil, work it through dry or towel-dried hair back to front, then shape it. It's waterless and concentrated, so a little covers a full head.
Questions we get
Tallow in my hair? Won't it be greasy?
No. Tallow's profile is close to what your scalp already makes, so your hair takes it in rather than wearing it. The clay handles the rest — it's in there to pull down shine and keep the finish matte.
How strong is the hold?
It holds all day. Natural wax-and-clay hold, so it stays workable instead of going crisp. What it won't do is turn your hair into a helmet — that's a plastic polymer effect, and it's the same thing that wrecks hair over time.
Will it wash out?
Yes, with normal shampoo. And unlike most pomade, what stays behind is doing your hair a favor.
Does it smell like beef?
No. Properly rendered tallow is close to odorless — the smell people worry about comes from cheap fat with protein left in it. This is cedar, from essential oil, and nothing else.
